Careers adviser

They offer impartial, client-centred support in schools and colleges, drawing on a broad knowledge of the education system, qualifications and progression pathways. Their role is primarily informational and guidance-focused.

Employment adviser

An employment adviser supports people who face barriers to finding or maintaining work. They may work for charities, advice centres or community organisations and their focus is practical: helping people access the job market and overcome the challenges that stand in the way.

Job coach

A job coach works with people with disabilities to help them learn, adapt and perform their job duties effectively. As well as task-specific skills, a job coach helps with the interpersonal and workplace skills needed to thrive in employment.

Career coach

Career coaching is different to all three. It is a deeper, more exploratory process. A career coach helps you examine your underlying motivations and aspirations, challenges your thinking and supports you to develop your own solutions. The relationship itself is central to the work.
